-
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® is the world's most widely used personality-type framework, developed from the work of Carl Jung and refined over decades of research by Katharine Cook Briggs, Isabel Briggs Myers, and The Myers-Briggs Company. It identifies how people naturally prefer to take in information, make decisions, get their energy, and approach the world — across four pairs of preferences. The result is one of sixteen types, each describing a distinct pattern of thinking and behaviour. It is used by millions of people and thousands of organisations worldwide.
-
The MBTI® instrument has been the subject of extensive research over several decades and has strong evidence for both reliability (producing consistent results over time) and validity (measuring what it claims to measure). It is published by The Myers-Briggs Company, which maintains rigorous standards for practitioner certification and instrument quality. Like all psychometric tools, it is most useful when interpreted properly by a qualified practitioner - which is why we don't offer a free self-scoring version.
-
Free online tests — including many that use MBTI® terminology — are approximations. They are not the official instrument, are not administered under controlled conditions, and are not interpreted by a certified practitioner. The value of a properly administered MBTI® assessment lies in the interpretation — understanding not just your type, but what it means for how you lead, communicate, and make decisions in your specific context. That's what Viridis Cognitive delivers.
-
No. MBTI® coaching is a development tool, not a therapeutic intervention. It focuses on self-awareness, communication, and performance — not on psychological treatment or mental health support. If you are dealing with mental health challenges, we would encourage you to seek support from a qualified mental health professional.
-
Absolutely yes. All assessments and coaching sessions can be delivered online, and we have extensive experience working across cultures and international markets. Remote delivery is fully supported

Team Discovery Workshops work best with groups of six to twelve people. For larger organisations, we can discuss a phased approach or a programme designed for multiple teams. Get in touch and we'll find the right structure.
-
It depends on the scope. A Team Discovery Workshop typically runs over two to three weeks from assessment to facilitated session. A Change-Readiness Programme or sustained coaching engagement is usually structured over three to six months. We scope every engagement individually — a discovery call will give you a clear picture of timing and investment before you commit to anything.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® was developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. At a time when academic careers in psychology were largely inaccessible to women, both brought exceptional intellectual rigour to a field they had no formal route into. Neither held qualifications in psychology — but both were highly educated, deeply methodical, and spent decades studying Carl Jung's theory of psychological types and translating it into a practical, validated instrument.
Their work began in earnest during World War II, driven by a conviction that understanding how different minds process information could reduce friction and improve cooperation — in workplaces, in relationships, and in society more broadly. The first version of the assessment was developed in 1943, published by the Educational Testing Service in 1962, and has been continuously refined by teams of research psychologists ever since.
The tool they built is now used by millions of people and thousands of organisations worldwide. That's not a legacy built on credentials. It's built on rigour, patience, and a belief that understanding people is always worth the effort.
-
MBTI®, DISC, and StrengthsFinder are all legitimate tools, but they measure different things and serve different purposes.
DISC focuses primarily on observable behaviour and communication style — useful for understanding how someone acts in a work context. StrengthsFinder identifies your top talent themes — what you're naturally good at. Both are valuable but relatively surface-level.
MBTI® goes deeper. It identifies how you fundamentally take in information, make decisions, and orient yourself to the world — the underlying cognitive preferences that drive behaviour rather than just the behaviour itself. That makes it particularly powerful for sustained coaching, team dynamics, and navigating significant change, where surface-level behavioural insight isn't enough.
At Viridis Cognitive we use MBTI® specifically because it gives us the depth of insight needed to build practical, lasting change — not just a snapshot of how someone is behaving right now.
-
If your organisation is navigating change, experiencing team friction that training hasn't resolved, or developing leaders who need to perform under pressure — MBTI® coaching is likely to be a strong fit. It works best where there's a genuine commitment to understanding people rather than just managing them.
The best way to find out is a short discovery call — no obligation, just a conversation about what's going on in your organisation and whether this is the right fit. If it isn't, we'll say so.
